지난 27일부터 29일 사흘간 경상북도 무형유산 김시인 자수장의 공개행사가 문경새재 오픈세트장에서 야간에 문화유산을 향유하는 『문경새재 문화유산 야행 행사』와 함께 진행되었다. 이번 행사에서는 자수장을 대중과 더 가까이 다가갈 수 있도록 김시인 보유자의 자수공예 기법 시연, 약주머니 만들기, 사주보 수 놓아보기 체험, 자수품 전시 등 다채로운 프로그램 등을 선보였다.
김시인 자수장은 어머니인 류현희 여사님으로부터 1963년부터 전통자수를 사사받기 시작하여 60여 년 자수 외길인생을 걸어오시면서 2006년에 경상북도 무형문화재로 지정되었으며, 1985년부터 사단법인 예명원 평생회 회장을 역임하였고, 2010년에는 한국자수문화협의회 회장에 임명되기도 하였다. 또한, 1988년 전통미술공모전 문화공보부 장관상 수상, 1990년 자수문화협의회 공모전 대상 수상 등의 다수의 입상경력도 보유하고 있다.
김시인 자수장은 “공개행사에 오셔서 전통 자수공예에 깊은 관심을 보내주신 많은 분들에게 감사드리며, 앞으로도 자수공예를 더 쉽고 재미있게 풀어내 우리 자수의 아름다움을 널리 알리고 자수의 맥이 이어나가도록 힘쓰겠다.”고 말했다.
